Angela A. Appiah
Angela A. Appiah Ph.D., DNP, MPH, RN, COA, FAACM

Associate Chief Nursing Officers, Ambulatory Care, James J. Peters VA Medical Center

Dr. Angela A. Appiah's influence in the global healthcare landscape, diverse roles, and experience with non-profit and for-profit organizations, NCI-designated Cancer Centers, and academic health centers/hospitals demonstrate her breadth of knowledge. Her healthcare experience in urban and rural settings, LMICs, community hospitals, and diverse global settings further highlights her international perspective, enlightening the audience with her varied experience. Dr. Angela A. Appiah currently serves as the Associate Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) for the Ambulatory Care services at the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), James J. Peters VA Medical Center (JPP VAMC). In addition to the ACNO role, she manages the Health Promotion Disease Prevention Program (HPDP). Dr. Appiah's commitment to education is further demonstrated by her position as an Adjunct Associate Professor for Pace University Lienhard School of Nursing and Health Science programs with the School of Health Professionals. She is also the founder and CEO of Global Population Health Consulting, LLC. Dr. Appiah chairs of the New York Organization of Nursing Leadership (NYONL) education and planning committee. She obtained her Ph.D. in nursing science from Pace University, DNP concentration in healthcare leadership from Capella University, MSN from Vanderbilt University, in Health Systems Management, MPH in Health Policy and Management from New York Medical College, MA in Counseling, & BA in Nursing/minor in psychology from Eastern Mennonite University. She also holds a Graduate Certificate in Population Health Management from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a Graduate Certificate in Managed Care from New York Medical College. Her unique expertise in academia, clinical practice, program development, research, operations, and global health systems management through population health sets her apart. She is a current fellow of Case Western Reserve University's Nurse Executive program and a Fellow of the American Academy of Case Management

Clara Marchese MS RN C-MNN

Clinical Assistant Professor and Clinical Program Director, Nursing Department, Nazareth University, Rochester, NY

Prior to her current position, Ms. Marchese worked in Maternity nursing at Highland Hospital in Rochester for 20 years as an RN and Lactation Consultant, and was also the Mother/Baby Nurse Manager for eight years. Ms. Marchese earned a Post Master’s Certificate in Nursing Education at Johns Hopkins University and her Master’s in Nursing and Health Care Leadership and BSN from the University of Rochester School of Nursing. Ms. Marchese is certified in Maternal Newborn Nursing and serves as a Subject Matter Expert on the Maternal Newborn Nursing content team for NCC. Ms. Marchese has also served as a board member for both NYONL and FLONL. In her role as Clinical Program Director, Ms. Marchese has worked to innovate the management structure for clinical rotations to maximize Instructor and student success. In her presentation, Ms. Marchese and her faculty colleagues will outline how they have been able to successfully mentor and support Adjunct Clinical Instructors, and how this support has enabled students to reach their full potential in the clinical environment.

Sarah Corsette
Sarah Corsette MS, RN-BC

Senior Preceptor, Acute Medicine, URMC Strong Memorial Hospital and Adjunct Faculty, Nursing Department, Nazareth University, Rochester, NY

I received my undergraduate Bachelor’s of Science in nursing degree from the University of Buffalo in 2013 and graduated with my Master’s in Nursing Education degree in 2022. I have worked for URMC on Acute Medicine 73600 for 11 years, which is a Medical Surgical adult inpatient unit. On my unit I function as the Senior Preceptor of newly hired nurses and assume responsibilities as Unit Council chair. I have been an adjunct faculty member with Nazareth University since 2021 in both the clinical and didactic setting. Professionally, I have presented poster presentations at the URMC Best Practice Showcase as well as the ANA annual conference. Clinically, I have presented podium presentations on best practices in shared governance to the Magnet Appraisers during URMC’s 5th designation site visit, Unit Shared Governance Council meeting, and Leadership Development Series at URMC. I also have my Medical Surgical Nursing Certification.

Ama Mathewos
Ama Mathewos MPA, BSN, RN, NEA-BC, CTACC

Certified Coach and Board Certified Advanced Nurse Executive

Ama is a Certified Coach and Board Certified Advanced Nurse Executive with 20 years of industry experience. One of her proudest moments was leading a team, post merger, with many opportunities for improvement into a cohesive team that demonstrated clinical excellence and ultimately became Magnet designated. Ama was able to accomplish Magnet designation and many other accolades by being an emotionally intelligent leader. She champions the belief that the answers reside within, awaiting discovery through introspection and action. Guiding leaders with warmth and accountability, Ama fosters an environment where leadership strengths are nurtured. Her coaching consistently allows leaders to attain clarity and confidence, achieving their personal and professional goals. Through strategic relationship-building and tailored action plans, Ama empowers leaders and their teams for success. By prioritizing self-awareness and emotional intelligence, she accelerates leadership development and professional growth which cultivates a healthy work environment. Alexis Masciangelo
Alexis Masciangelo MS, RN

RN, Emergency Medicine, URMC Strong Memorial Hospital; Clinical Assistant Professor at Nazareth University.

Alexis Masciangelo is an alumni of Nazareth College with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She has worked as a Registered Nurse in Emergency Medicine at Strong Memorial Hospital’s Observation Unit for her entire career holding both staff and management positions. She obtained her Masters in Nursing Education from the University of Rochester and currently is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Nazareth University. She teaches both didactically and clinically amongst the various medical surgical courses and holds the position of Co-Director of the Nazareth Nursing Simulation lab. Alexis has the unique perspective of being a student and novice faculty member within the same nursing department.
