Dean and Graduate Program Director of the School of Nursing at Roberts Wesleyan University
As a distinguished scholar and practitioner, Dr. Annemarie Dowling-Castronovo earned a PhD from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, and her master's from New York University, and undergraduate education from The College of Staten Island, City University of New York. Her extensive academic experience includes tenured academic and administrative appointments at NYU, College of Staten Island, Monmouth University, North Carolina University, Chapel Hill and Wagner College, where she also held key administrative roles. A highly accomplished Gerontological Nurse Practitioner, Dr. Dowling-Castronovo has dedicated her clinical career to improving care for older adults through nursing. She recently served on the Palliative Care Team at Staten Island University Hospital - Northwell Health; over her career in various settings such as, nursing homes, and home visit and continence programs. Her deep commitment to care of older adults is evident in her publications and presentations, focusing on topics like urinary incontinence and the Fundamental Care for older adults. In addition to her academic and clinical work, Dr. Dowling-Castronovo is an influential leader in the nursing community. She was recognized as a Distinguished Scholar Fellow of the Nursing Academy within the National Academies of Practice; and has received numerous honors, including a national Distinguished Educator in Gerontological Nursing award. Her leadership extends to various global and national professional committees for organizations such as the International Learning Collaborative and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Although new to our region, she currently serves as a board member for the Rochester Regional Health Extended Care Board, and was recently recognized as a Healthcare Power Player by our Rochester Business Journal. She also held a position on the Editorial Board for the Urological Nursing Journal for six years. With her extensive experience in bringing education, practice, scholarship and service together Dr. Dowling-Castronovo is a passionate advocate for advancing nursing education and research. Since joining the Roberts Community - she is dedicated to better understanding and demonstrating the integration of Christian Faith. She is also wife to Steven for over 30 years, mother to three sons with an upcoming wedding - she enjoys downhill skiing, baking, grandpuppy city and being a tourist in her new Rochester home.
