NYONL Advocates for Continued Workforce Flexibilities

There is a possibility that EO 4.20 -- the executive order allowing current workforce flexibilities -- will not be extended past its May 22nd expiration date.  NYONL has sent a letter to Governor Hochul urging her to continue to extend this order until the workforce shortages have further resolved.

Meanwhile, the Legislature has drafted several bills that will help extend flexibilities, should the EO expire.  NYONL position statements on several of them have been delivered to each member of the State Legislature:

  • A6697-Fahy - granting temporary practice privileges to new RN and LPN applicants for licensure;
  • A6030-B-Paulin/S6886-Rivera - allowing for standing orders to facilitate care and patient safety; and
  • S6749-A-Rivera - establishing a Community Paramedicine Demonstration project.

These position statements are attached and can also be found on the NYONL website: https://nyonl.nursingnetwork.com/page/57931-current-position-statements-legislative-agenda.  Bill text can be found on the NYS Assembly https://nyassembly.gov/ and New York State Senate https://www.nysenate.gov/  websites.

We will keep NYONL members informed of any additional legislation, and the decision on the Executive Order.
