NYONL Mentorship Program Invites Applicants

The NYONL professional mentor/mentee program connects emerging leaders with seasoned New York nurse leaders in academia and practice, providing personalized guidance and career development opportunities to accelerate growth, bridge experience gaps, and empower participants to reach their full career potential.  If you have skills as an experienced nurse leader, or if you are an emerging leader who wishes to enhance your leadership IQ as a mentee, this program is for you.  We are now accepting mentor and mentee applicants for our third program cohort!

Please review the following information about the NYONL Mentoring and New Leader Outreach Program before submitting your application. It will take less than 10 minutes to complete this application.  The General Mentoring and New Leader Outreach Program provides an organized resource for nurses and new nurse leaders to guide them through mentoring, coaching, and sponsorship if suitable.

Program Goals

The Mentoring Program:

1. Provide an opportunity for mentors and mentees to share and benefit from nurse leaders' roles

2. Provide a safe environment for learning, networking, and exchanging information while leading effectively

3. Inspire continuing leading through skills, competencies, and self-development in nursing leadership

4. Provide a forum for mentees to expand their professional network

Requirements:

Mentor:

·     Active NYONL full members or retiree members.

·     Possess a record of nurse leader service

·     Current nurse leader with at least five years (recommended) of working experience

·     A one-year commitment to the Mentoring Program

·     Attend an hour of training for mentors

·     Participate in workshops and continuing education

Mentee:

·     Active full or student members

·     New Nurse Leader with less than five years of working experience

·     A one-year commitment to the Mentoring Program

·     Attend an hour of training for mentees

·     Participate in workshops and continuing education

Time Commitment

Check-in with the mentor/mentee at least once a month or as discussed with the mentor and mentee.

Review orientation materials/attend sessions virtually for check-in (x2).

Coaching/Sponsorship:

If you have identified an NYONL member nurse leader you look up to and would like to be paired with, please indicate that on the application.
